Local high school students who are passionate about their Career and Technical Student Organizations are asking for the community’s help. The Utah Legislature is considering cutting funding for these student organizations, including DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, and TSA. In response, local students have started a petition to show how much these organizations mean to our community and they are asking all to sign it. They have also provided a list of email addresses for those willing to email the representatives asking that these organizations continue to receive support. These students will be attending the Appropriations Subcommittee meeting on October 14th to present the petition to the lawmakers present. “We really don’t get a say in it so we want to get everyone who can vote involved because we really don’t want this to happen,” shares Uintah DECA student Ava Haslem. “Our CTSOs aren’t just clubs to us. They truly shape us as people and our future success.” Community members across the Uintah Basin are urged to support these efforts to save funding for DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, and TSA in schools in Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah Counties, and beyond. Visit the Uintah School District or Uintah High DECA Facebook pages to link to the survey and access the list of representative emails. You can also access it through this news story on BasinNow.com.
