Local Leaders Feel Positive about Trump Picks

President Trump’s cabinet picks are generally finding support among Basin residents, including the support of local leaders. With public lands an ongoing issue in northeastern Utah, Trump’s pick of Montana Representative Ryan Zinke as the Secretary of the Interior has especially garnered attention. “Zinke will be really good for the western United States,” shares Duchesne County Commissioner Ron Winterton. “He knows the issues and is friendly with the oil and gas industry. He will offer balance on multiple use of public lands.” Winterton and other local leaders were in Washington, D.C. this week for the National Association of Counties legislative conference. The overall feeling was that if Trump’s cabinet is confirmed, it will be a very good thing for the state of Utah. “Trump is getting the right people in there to help us get back to doing what we need to be doing,” shares Winterton. “These are people that understand public lands and the issues we face.”
