12-year-old Tyler Grimshaw of Vernal is making headlines again for his unreal adventures on the water. Outdoor Life has featured the young fishing expert after he came incredibly close to tying the Idaho catch and release record for landing a sturgeon measuring just one inch shy of 10 feet. It took Tyler about 50 minutes to pull the massive sturgeon in. The Idaho catch and release record is 10 feet. According to the feature in Outdoor Life, Tyler had a great start that March morning on the Snake River near Mountain Home catching an over 7-footer right away. Shortly after that initial catch he hooked the record sturgeon and the giant fish went airborne! Local guide Joe Weisner was with Tyler and his father. He explained that Tyler hooked the sturgeon in a deep pool with minimal current which helped Tyler bring the sturgeon to the boat all by himself without wearing completely out. Weisner said the fish jumped a total of 4 times, once right next to the boat, which he said was terrifying. White sturgeon are protected in Idaho meaning record-seeking anglers only have the catch and release record to shoot for. Tyler’s experience is likely to wet the appetite of other record seekers to head to the Snake River intent on being the next record holder. Well done Tyler Grimshaw on your continued success!
