Little Hole Trail Gets a Makeover

The Office of Outdoor Recreation, part of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, recently completed a project near Flaming Gorge. The Little Hole Trail had a unique problem as river release flows submerged the wood boardwalk causing it to become dilapidated and unsafe. This in turn caused hikers to go off trail, damaging the banks and forcing sediment into the river. The solution came in the form of materials traditionally found on offshore rig platforms. The trail is now reconstructed and anchored so that it will withstand future release or other high water events. This was an RRI grant project that included the efforts of Daggett County, Flaming Gorge Community Foundation, the USFS, the UCC and the Intermountain Natural History Association.
