Upgrades to the Uintah County Jail security system met with the Commissioners’ approval
on Monday
although a portion of the project remains on hold. Uintah County Attorney Jonathan Stearmer recommended a hold on the prebooking and medical cameras in order to continue a legal review of security protocols. Following the recommendation, the Commission gave final approval for the upgrades to the Uintah County Jail security system minus the new cameras. Cache Valley Electric out of Logan was the only company to bid on the projects. The project bid totalled $43,907 dollars for jail control security system upgrades to the software and $19,933 dollars for 6 jail medical and pre-booking cameras to be installed. During an early August Commission meeting, Commissioner Mark Raymond noted that there are currently no cameras in some areas of the jail and recent events have made it absolutely necessary that additional cameras be added for both officer and inmate safety. The 6 cameras are proposed to be placed in each of the medical and pre-booking rooms of the jail.
