An intoxicated man is facing charges after officers responded to a call of disorderly conduct at a home near 500 East and 200 North in Vernal. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, officers arrived at the address and alcohol bottles were scattered across the front yard and people could be heard in the back yard. The officer knocked on the door and announced himself several times but the man on the other side of the door would not come out. The officer returned to the patrol vehicle when a man, later identified as Jaron Taveapont, came out of the residence holding a turquoise .22 rifle. Jaron raised the rifle and pointed it at the officer. Once the officer drew his firearm, Jaron complied with commands to put the firearm down. He was taken into custody and is charged with 2nd Degree Felony Assault With Use Of Dangerous Weapon, Misdemeanor Carrying a Dangerous Weapon While Under the Influence, and Public Intoxication.
