A Vernal man is in custody and being held without bail after several alleged actions that took place on Monday in Uintah County. According to the Probable Cause Statement, 37-year-old Dustin Jake Applegate was intoxicated when he went up to the porch of a home and picked up packages that did not belong to him. He then attempted to enter the home by manipulating the electronic keypad on the door. The occupant of the home opened the door and asked him what he needed to which Applegate replied that he was working for Amazon and was not allowed to leave the packages on the porch. He then continued to attempt to gain access to the residence before leaving with one of the packages. During that same evening, Applegate also, in his intoxicated state, made an individual feel uncomfortable in his presence prompting her to leave the situation and get in her vehicle. Applegate followed her and grabbed her seatbelt and pulled it so tightly against her body that it caused pain. He was arrested and is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Burglary of a Dwelling, Misdemeanor Theft, and Intoxication. He was also charged this week for actions earlier this month after allegedly entering someone’s property and attempting to drive a tractor off the property but failed. He also entered the residence and took a handgun. For the April 5th actions, Applegate is charged with Attempted Theft, Burglary of a Dwelling, and Theft of a Firearm.
