The next step in making rail a reality in the Uintah Basin is underway. The Seven County Infrastructure Coalition met in Vernal
on Thursday afternoon
for their board meeting and unanimously approved applying for funding through the Community Impact Board for the environmental studies needed. If given, regulatory approval would launch construction of a rail line connecting the Uintah Basin with rail in Colorado, a possibility that could happen within 5 years. Depending on cost considerations, the rail would run between the Uintah Basin and possibly Rifle or Craig, Colorado where it could connect with national rail. Supporters believe this possibility could help address the transportation constraints in the Uintah Basin that are seriously costing the economy.
