Ice Fishing Hotspots in Northeastern Utah

The Division of Wildlife Services is highlighting the best places to fish in northeastern Utah where you can avoid a crowd and catch a variety of fish. Browns Draw is one such place where the tiger, brown, and rainbow trout average only about 15 inches in length but provides a nice variety. “Not only is the reservoir remote,” shares DWR biologist Natalie Boren, “but the only parking area is on the south end. If you’re willing to walk, you can park on the south end and walk to the north end. You’ll probably be the only angler there.” Flaming Gorge also made the list of destinations where lake trout are abundant. Biologist Ryan Mosley says the best lake trout fishing usually happens at the start of the ice fishing season. Mosley also offers advice to always place a small piece of sucker or chub meat on the lure’s hook to entire fish to bite. He also recommends using more than one fishing pole. On Flaming Gorge you can use up to six but your name must be attached to each line. Also, remember if you fish on the Wyoming side of the reservoir you must have the correct fishing stamps or a Wyoming fishing license. Visit
