A wildfire near Fruitland spread quickly and was also quickly contained over the weekend in Duchesne County. Utah Fire Info announced the new start of the Grass Hollow Fire at 5:30pm on August 1st. It was estimated at 2 to 3 acres and was actively spreading north of Highway 40 and west of Duchesne. Firefighters were on scene with a dozer constructing a fireline as additional resources continued to arrive. At the time of the announcement, structures were reported as threatened and the fire had been determined to be human-caused. By 7pm on Saturday, Utah Fire Info shared great news, the Grass Hollow Fire’s forward progress had stopped. The last report stated that the firefighters had entered the mop up phase, extinguishing hot spots within the fire perimeter and continuing to secure the perimeter line.
