Holiday Spirit Fuels Food Drives for Local Pantries

Holiday spirit is filling the shelves at local food pantries this season. Just this week, Roosevelt Junior High and Union High School students delivered a large donation to the Duchesne County Food Pantry. UBAOG Community Services Coordinator Kim Dieter says that there has been quite a bit of donations this holiday season from local schools and businesses in order to support the pantries in Duchesne, Roosevelt, Vernal, and Manila. Last month, Vernal Scouts delivered over 9,500 pounds of food to the Ashley Valley Food Pantry and the Uintah County Food For Fines brought in 772 pounds. Even still, the pantries can always utilize more donations. “The donations we are receiving this year at the holidays are extremely important to us,” shares Dieter. “Without them we wouldn’t be able to sustain throughout the year. It is mainly donations during the holiday season that we then make last throughout the year.” In addition to canned food donations, there is also the option of making monetary donations that will be used to stock shelves.
