A UBTech welder has found success in the world of competitive welding and has an amazing story of work ethic and perseverance. A UBTech press release this week shares the story of Roosevelt’s Jordan Wynn who was a welding student at UBTech back in 2017 when he won gold at the Utah SkillsUSA State Competition and then went on to win the National SkillsUSA bronze. Continuing his pursuit, in January Wynn’s name was announced as one of the top three semi-finalists from the World Trials with a chance to travel to Russia for the World Skills title. A competition in Alabama in February was the final step but unfortunately, during the competition, Wynn made a mistake. In that moment he says he almost quit, but one of his instructors pushed him to keep going and he did. The mistake did cost him a win in one category but his perseverance led him to win the other two. Still, Wynn  lost by less than one point after the final tally and his dream of competing in Russia came to an end. Wynn now focuses his time mentoring other welders training for SkillsUSA competition. Mature beyond his years, Wynn’s best advice for any aspiring welder is excellent advice for all people. He urges those training to “be where you are supposed to be. If you’re in class, be in class. If you’re working, work hard. Don’t get distracted, don’t sit around, and don’t get on the phone, instead be where you are supposed to be mentally and concentrate on your task at hand and learn how to focus.” Wynn plans to continue his education at Weber State, seeking a Bachelor’s of Science in Manufacturing Engineering with an emphasis in welding. Congratulations Jordan Wynn on your success and thank you for providing an excellent example of work ethic and focus for us all!
