Heber City officials are pushing back against the UDOT plans for the Heber Bypass that would route industrial traffic off Highway 40 through north fields and away from downtown. The letter from Heber City Council and Wasatch County Council states that “after careful review of the Draft EIS, the Preferred Alternative Technical Report, and extensive public engagement within our community, Heber City and Wasatch County Council respectfully submits that: An alternate alignment based on Route B located in parallel to the existing US-40 is a more appropriate and sustainable long-term solution for the Heber Valley Corridor.” The emphasis is on saving the area known as the North Fields for their historical and agricultural significance. The new route suggestions would require sacrificing existing properties, which those in support of the change say is worth it.
