The Heart of the Basin Warming Center in Vernal is keeping those who would be sleeping in the cold, safe and warm one night at a time, but more volunteers are needed to keep the Warming Center open. “Due to unexpected life changes for some of our regular volunteers, we have critical gaps in our schedule,” shares Monday’s announcement. “If these shifts are not filled, we cannot open on those nights and that means people in our community will have nowhere warm to go. In just one month, Heart of the Basin has provided 135 sheltered nights, and saved our community over $13,000 in hotel vouchers.
It also means fewer emergency room visits, fewer law enforcement calls for welfare checks, and reduced strain on local healthcare and public safety resources but we can only stay open with volunteer coverage.” For safety reasons, there must be at least two volunteers at all times. Those able to volunteer for evening, overnight, or morning shifts are asked to visit ‘Heart of the Basin’ on Facebook or Instagram or use the link provided below.
