Health Tip for Macular Degeneration

Uintah Basin Healthcare is passing on a health tip for those that are suffering from macular degeneration. Dr. Shane Powell, eye surgeon and ophthalmologist explains that 1 in 100 people are affected by the disease, especially the elderly. The condition affects the back of the eye that then leads to loss of central vision. There is nothing one can do to stop the disease but there are several things to slow it down such as not smoking, eating a well balanced diet with rich green vegetables (like broccoli and spinach), as well as regular exercise. If you are suffering from macular degeneration be sure to plan on yearly to twice a year visits to track the progress of the disease. If the disease goes from the dry form to the wet form there are treatments available. Please make an appointment by calling
