A hazmat tank was compromised in a semi tanker crash in Rio Blanco County this week. After 1pm on Monday, a call came in of an injury crash on Highway 139 south of Rangely. According to Colorado State Patrol, “The initial investigation shows the Kenworth was traveling northbound on Highway 139, near milepost 45. The Kenworth failed to negotiate a right curve and traveled off the left side of the road, colliding with a fence. The Kenworth continued down and across a steep ravine before colliding with the opposite side of the ravine. The Kenworth began to travel up the opposite side of the ravine, when it began to roll ¼ times onto its passenger side. During the roll, the hazmat tank was compromised, and its load spilled. The driver was transported to an area hospital for moderate injuries.” Anyone who may have witnessed the crash but has not spoken with investigators is asked to contact Colorado State Patrol dispatch.
