Harmful Algal Blooms Present At Calder Reservoir And Matt Warner Reservoir

TriCounty Health Department has announced that Harmful Algal Blooms are present in two waterbodies in northeastern Utah. It is important to take precautions seriously at Calder Reservoir and Matt Warner Reservoir as the Harmful Algal Blooms produce toxins that make humans and animals sick. Do not drink the water. Do not swim, wade, or jet/water ski in the water. Do not paddle in areas of algae. Fishing can be okay but always discard the skin and guts. Boating is okay if these precautions are followed. The DEQ shares that sometimes the cyanobacteria that form these blooms can produce toxins which cause illness and can damage the human kidney, liver, or neurologic system. Pets and livestock are more likely to drink water and be hurt by these toxins. Pets are even more sensitive to the toxins than humans and if they drink the water are more likely to become very ill or die. Learn more at https://deq.utah.gov/dwq/recreational-water-quality.
