It was another great weekend on Flaming Gorge Reservoir for the annual Burbot Bash. 237 teams participated made up of 790 anglers. $42,000 dollars in cash and prizes were given away and a whopping 5,565 Burbot were caught and checked-in during the tournament. The team winners for Most Burbot caught was Team Asay with 252, Mac Attack with 231, and King Luke with 207. Winners for Biggest Burbot caught was Dustin Egbert with 34.6 inches, Jana Franz with 34.1 inches, and Kaden Thornock with 32.6 inches. Winners for Smallest Burbot caught was John Allen with 4.3 inches, Tyler Ray with 6.1 inches, and Joe Iliga with 8.4 inches. The Burbot Bash aims to make a dent in the burbot population each year. Burbot are an invasive species having a devastating effect on the Flaming Gorge fishery. With this year’s numbers included, the Burbot Bash annual event has removed around 35,000 burbot from Flaming Gorge since 2011.
