Uintah County issued a press release on Tuesday sharing that the Uintah County Museum and Preservation Board received a Utah Certified Local Government Program Grant to help preserve the historic St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Vernal.
“This project shows what’s possible when community pride meets professional preservation,” said Commissioner Sonja Norton. “With the guidance of skilled conservators and the support of local volunteers, we’re ensuring this beloved building continues to tell the story of Vernal’s past — and its resilience.”
St. Paul’s Episocopal Church was built in 1901 and is one of the oldest religious structures in the Uintah Basin still standing in its original location. The grant will enable a partnership between local volunteers and professional restoration specialists, combining expert insight with community energy.
Amber Koski, project lead, said she’s eager to see residents contribute their hands, materials, and stories. “There’s something really special about restoring a place built by your great-grandparents’ generation,” she said. “This project gives us the chance to come together as a community, while also making sure we do it right — following best practices and preserving the craftsmanship that’s stood the test of time.”
Work is expected to begin November 2025. To learn more, contact the Museum of Uintah County at 435-789-7399.
