While the worst of the winter storms may be behind us, it is still too early to rule out dangerous winter road conditions. TriCounty Health Department is encouraging citizens to create winter emergency car kits to have on hand in case of any travel trouble you may yet experience this winter. “Have a foldable shovel in case you get stuck, snacks and water if you need to stay in your car a day or two, blankets, gloves and keep your gas tank filled up,” shares TriCounty Health’s Jeff Robb. Another important tip is to crack your window every half hour if you are stuck and remain sitting in your running vehicle. Sometimes the exhaust pipe can get backed up and carbon monoxide poisoning can occur. Finally, be sure someone knows where you are going and when you should return, says Robb. Don’t assume it is too late to get prepared for winter travel. Visit
