When it comes to emergencies we all need to get out of the mindset of “if” an emergency will happen to a mindset of “when” an emergency will happen. This clear advice is the message from TriCounty Health Department as they strive to get locals to think in terms of preparedness. Disasters happen quickly, shares TriCounty Health representative Jeff Robb, and it’s important to have a plan if a disaster strikes while you are in the car, at home, work, or somewhere else. 72-hour kits are the best place to start when it comes to emergency preparedness and it’s important to have one for your home, workplace, and vehicles. The next step is to prepare to shelter in place for up to a week. This includes having enough water, food, and sanitation supplies for each person in the home. It’s also crucial to build an emergency communication plan. If you have children in school check with each school to know what their emergency plan is, recommends Robb.
