Despite raging winds, no additional fire growth occurred this week on the Maeser Highway Fire. As of Monday, the fire was 90 percent contained and full containment was expected on Tuesday. Conditions in the fire area were reported to be very difficult due to wind gusts sometimes in excess of 40 miles per hour. Dust also created poor visibility. Crews will continue to extinguish hot spots before transitioning to monitoring and patrolling the area this week. Officials are asking that individuals remain outside the fire area until full containment is announced. Fire officials say the Maeser Highway Fire has been an example of true interagency cooperation with firefighting efforts from local departments and volunteers within the Uintah and Duchesne Fire Districts, State of Utah, BLM, Forest Service, National Park Service, and BIA.
