A fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshals as a federal parolee in a heroin death case was arrested Tuesday in Rock Springs. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, 30-year-old Darren Matthew Olsen was indicted by a federal grand jury in July of 2014 for his role in conspiring to possess and to distribute heroin in the Sweetwater County area that ultimately resulted in the overdose death of a local man. The arrest of Olsen was part of “an 18-month-long multi-agency drug investigation that stretched across Southwest Wyoming and into Utah, and which resulted in the arrest of 5 other local-area residents and 2 residents of West Jordan, Utah on similar charges.” Olsen was released from federal prison in September of 2016 and was ordered to serve 4 years of supervised-release. Court documents show that Olsen violated the terms of his release on multiple occasions and failed to report his probation. Detectives spotted Olsen during a surveillance operation on Tuesday and he was arrested without incident.
