The Dinosaurland Freedom Festival kicked off on Sunday evening with a patriotic program at the Vernal City Park. The comment was made that it is important to kick off the festivities first with a moment of reverence and recognition of the price of freedom. All were encouraged to be sure to walk through the field of flags and think of the sacrifices made. A group of brothers were recognized for their service to their country and service in the community. Don Gardner was present and recognized as this year’s Honorary Veteran. It was shared that he continues to “live a life full of service: service to his country, his family, his friends, and his community.” Don’s brothers Jack, Ted, and Ned were also recognized for their service during their lives. The field of flags is now on display at the Walking Park on 500 North in Vernal. Freedom Fest activities will go on throughout the day of July 4th.
