A former employee of Swain’s Restaurant was found at about 2:15am on Sunday wearing a Denver Broncos football helmet and carrying a large piece of vacuum sealed beef while officers were downtown investigating a vehicle burglary. 25-year-old Glendon Hardy appeared to be intoxicated and when officers asked him where the meat was from he said he had gotten it from Swain’s Restaurant. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer proceeded to Swain’s and found the backdoor open and unlocked though the business appeared to be closed. The officer entered and noted obvious damage throughout the restaurant, including a television broken off the wall, handles of the beer taps broken, food spilling out of the fridges, items and broken glass scattered on the floor, and what appeared to be 2 helmets missing from a wall display behind the bar. Based on the circumstances and his possession of the helmet and the beef, the officer suspected that Hardy had caused the damage and stole the items from the restaurant. When questioned, Hardy admitted to having entered the restaurant and consuming alcoholic beverages. He said he had previously worked at Swain’s but had been fired and did not like the owner. He also said he knew that they often forgot to lock the back door. Glendon Hardy has been charged with felony Burglary as well as Property Damage, Theft, and Intoxication.
