While his plate is perhaps less full in comparison, retirement for former Senator Kevin VanTassell has shown a continued commitment to the citizens of the Uintah Basin. VanTassell served as the Utah District 26 Senator for 12 years through 2018 and enjoyed a successful career with Zion’s Bank. Now in retirement he chooses to still serve on boards that have an impact on rural Utah: the Utah Building Board, Utah Communications Board, and Utah Highway Commission on which he is a voting member. The Utah Highway Commission is where VanTassell is able to continue advocating for transportation needs in the Uintah Basin and rural Utah as a whole, which can easily take a back seat to the Wasatch Front if not advocated for. VanTassell discussed transportation needs and issues in detail during last Monday’s radio forum on Newstalk KVEL. He noted that he is part of the effort to get away from politics in the selection of road projects and that he feels progress is being made though they continue to work on getting the bugs out of the system.
