Flooding/Excess Runoff Risk Higher Through Thursday

National Weather Service reports showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue today into Thursday with Flood Watches in some areas in effect for portions of eastern Utah and western Colorado. “These storms pose a threat of excess runoff by producing rainfall rates in excess of 2 inches per hour at times,” shares the announcement. “Flash Flood Watches are in effect for southern portions of eastern Utah and western Colorado through tomorrow evening. The threat of flash flooding is the highest in the watch area, however, most areas across the area will see storms capable of producing very heavy rainfall and the potential for high runoff.” Remember that excess runoff can result in flooding of creeks, streams, slot canyons, slick rock areas, low-lying and flood prone areas, and wildfire burn scars. Recent burn scars from recent years will be especially susceptible.
