A fire at UBTech prompted a building evacuation on Wednesday afternoon. According to UBTech Vice President Bob Peterson, the fire occurred at the Roosevelt campus at approximately 3:00pm. “The fire occurred in a dust collector on the exterior of the building,” shares Peterson. “In the interest of student and staff safety, a prompt evacuation of all students and staff took place, after which Roosevelt City Police and Fire responded.” Roosevelt City Police Chief Rick Harrison explains that the fire may have started when a table saw got hot and sent an ember through the dust collection system and into the exterior mounted dust collector. The fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries reported. Classes, however, were cancelled for the remainder of the evening to resume as normal on Thursday. Chief Harrison stated that possible damage could be around $100,000 dollars.
