Fatal Fall in Dinosaur National Monument

National Park Service Rangers and an investigator from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a hiker on the northern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument

. According to Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, monument staff received word

morning that a 73-year-old woman had fallen sometime during the night off a 120 foot cliff. The private rafting group had launched on the Green River


on Monday


from the Gates of Lodore and rafted 2.5 miles before setting up camp at the Wade and Curtis River Campsite. It is believed that the victim was climbing a slope west of the campsite alone sometime during the night or early morning when she fell off the cliff. She was found


Tuesday


morning and a member of the rafting party rowed 2.5 miles upriver to report the tragedy. The name of the victim will not be released until family has been notified.
