It has been a difficult few weeks for our neighboring counties in Wyoming. Of course, dealing with the massive Green River Tunnel crash on I-80 that involved 26 vehicles and killed three people is ongoing and has put a burden on the City of Green River. Tragically, another fatal crash occurred this week, this time on February 19th at approximately 5:30pm outside of Green River. Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that the crash took place at mile marker 83 on Wyoming Highway 374, south of the Interstate-80 interchange, and resulted in two fatalities and one injury. A southbound 2011 Honda Odyssey was approaching a sharp left curve on Highway 374 when a westbound 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer combination unit failed to negotiate the same curve. The Volvo collided broadside with the driver’s side of the Honda. The Honda had three occupants. The driver 47-year-old Jeffrey Wilson and rear passenger 32-year-old Kathrine Franklin, both of Green River, sustained fatal injuries. The third occupant was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. The driver of the Volvo sustained no apparent injuries. Charges are pending until the investigation is complete. Addressing some concerns, Wyoming Highway Patrol shared that this fatal crash was not part of the rerouted traffic due to the tunnel cleanup.
