Fall Prescribed Burning Planned For Duchesne-Roosevelt Ranger District

Ashley National Forest has plans for fall prescribed burning on the Duchesne-Roosevelt Ranger District but when will depend on weather and fuel conditions. “Prescribed fires only occur when a specific set of conditions are met,” explains Ashley National Forest. “These conditions include air, vegetation moisture levels, temperatures, wind directions and speeds, smoke dispersal, and expected fire behavior. Fire personnel will ignite the fires using a helicopter and/or hand lighting. Engines, and hand crews will monitor the fire until objectives are met. Smoke may be visible throughout the spring season. Prescribed burning is expected to cause minimal impacts to areas or activities outside of the burn units themselves.” So far a prescribed fire and pile burn is scheduled for the Beaver Unit with a plan to burn 300 acres. It’s also expected that piles will also be burned on Reservation Ridge.
