Expect Late Year For Access to Ashley National Forest Road

Once again, officials are letting the public know that roads to favorite areas of Ashley National Forest are nowhere near ready for visitors as snow is still hanging on. In fact, during late years the roads haven’t opened until July and this year will be pushing the later rather than the earlier openings.  As of Tuesday, May 16th, snow totals were  47 inches at Brown Duck, 26 inches at Buck Pasture, 36 inches at Chepeta, 46 inches at Five Points Lake, 22 inches at Hayden Fork, 59 inches at Lake Fork Basin, 32 inches at Mosby Mountain, 34 inches at Spirit Lake, and 54 inches at Trial Lake. “Please do not travel on soft roads as the ruts you leave today will remain for the summer for all to enjoy,” reminds Ashley National Forest administration. “Our road crew works to maintain our roads but cannot cover every road every year. Please do your part to take care of our road system so you can enjoy it this summer when access is available.” For those itching to get out camping, Carmel Campground, Whiterocks Campground, Antelope Flat Campground and others around Flaming Gorge are open.
