Executive Order Establishes Utah As Pro-Human State In Approach To AI

AI is a hot topic across the nation with the concern even reaching the Uintah Basin where plans for at least one AI data center are being pursued. Utah is among the first to establish pro-human framework for AI integration in the state government with Utah Governor having signed an executive order on Tuesday. "The choice between innovation and safety in government is a false one," said Governor Cox. "AI represents a generational opportunity to better serve Utahns, but technology must always remain accountable to the people. By ensuring our approach is strictly human-guided and human-enhancing, Utah is demonstrating how state government can lead the nation in deploying cutting-edge technology while preserving individual liberty, privacy, and human dignity." The Department of Government Operations will submit an annual progress report on the pro-human framework to the Governor beginning July 1, 2027.
