Duchesne County has secured funding and is moving forward on a project to address ongoing issues caused by the East Fork Burn Scar. Over $3 million dollars was awarded through the NRCS, Natural Resources Conservation Service, as part of the federal Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program. Duchesne County Commissioner Greg Miles shares that this emergency watershed project aims to deal with the disaster that the East Fork Burn Scar caused. Jones & DeMille Engineering have been meeting with stakeholders such as Forest Service, ditch companies, and will be meeting with property owners. Among the issues needing addressed is damage from the major flooding caused by the burn scar. For example, the flooding impacted the canals that carry irrigation water to Talmage and Mountain Home. Commissioner Miles says it is a priority to make sure irrigation water can be delivered safely through clean canals. Projects will need to be done in both the Moon Lake drainages and the Rock Creek drainages this year.
