Emergency Management Conducts Assessment of Flooding Damage in Timber Canyon Area

Aerial photos showing the flooding damage in the Timber Canyon area of Duchesne County are sobering. The Duchesne County Department of Fire and Emergency Management and the Duchesne County Road Department assessed the damage last week with the help of a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter. The assessment covered along Strawberry River Road from Timber Canyon east to the junction with Highway 40 and it was determined that significant work will need to be done to make the road passable again. “This means there is no access south of the Pinnacles until further notice,” shares Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. Duchesne County was busy last week delivering sandbags to property owners along the Strawberry River. In their update, the Sheriff’s Office didn’t mince words. “To say the current conditions on the Lower Red Creek Road/Strawberry River Road loop south of Highway 40 are bad is a serious understatement. Anyone choosing to travel any part of this loop once it is re-opened does so at their own risk. The potential for future flooding events like the ones that happened on July 22nd and on August 22nd remains high due to the Dollar Ridge Fire burn scar.” All are urged to use good judgement and to exercise caution.
