Efforts Continue for Seep Ridge Road Extension

Efforts to see Seep Ridge Road extended to I-70 continue. The project, largely supported in the Basin but more resisted in Grand County, would construct a corridor through the Book Cliffs extending Seep Ridge Road to I-70. According to a study published through Parsons Brinkerhoff, the region stands to gain hundreds of millions of dollars in economic impacts if the roadway is complete. The study says the roadway would foster increased economic activity through tourism, recreation, energy production, as well as for the construction industry. The 7 County Infrastructure Coalition supports the project and received funding last year through the Community Impact Board for an EIS to be performed. According to former Uintah County Commissioner and current Executive Director of the 7 County Infrastructure Coalition Mike McKee, the key to having the road constructed is state involvement. This wouldn’t be something that Grand County or Uintah County builds, explains McKee, it would be the state of Utah.
