DWR Proposes Changes To Fishing Regulations On Certain Local Waters

by | Aug 24, 2022 | News | 0 comments

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is proposing changes to fishing regulations, including in the Uintah Basin. One change is to remove roundtail chub from the list of prohibited fish. The change would allow roundtail chub to be caught on the Green River in two sections, as well as other locations. Other changes include increasing the daily fish limit at Jones Hole Creek from two trout (only one may be a brown trout over 15 inches) to four trout (any species and any size fish). This should increase harvest opportunity and improve the health of the population. At Pelican Lake they would require all common carp to be killed immediately after being caught and increase the daily fish limit from 24 bullhead to 50 bullhead. Also they would reduce the daily fish limit on bluegill, green sunfish, black crappie, and yellow perch from 20 fish to 10 fish at Starvation Reservoir. The public meetings for the recommendations can either be viewed virtually or attended in person. Comments can only be submitted through the forms on wildlife.utah.gov. The public comment period opened on August 23rd and runs until the day of the RAC meeting. The Northeastern Utah RAC meeting is happening on September 8th at 6:30pm at the DWR Vernal Office. Online comments must be submitted by September 1st.
