The deer rifle hunt is just days away and the Division of Wildlife Resources is offering timely reminders for those heading to the mountains. The hunt opens
October 20th
and
ends October 28th.
Safety needs to be each hunters’ top priority. Remember to wear a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange on your head, chest, and back. Always look beyond the shot and ensure you have a clear shot. Something else for hunters to note is that there will be three check stations in the Uintah Basin where the DWR is taking samples from bucks to check for CWD, Chronic Wasting Disease. “If you have a mature buck we’re hoping you’ll stop and let us take samples,” shares DWR Conservation Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby, who explains the samples are for science to make sure the areas are staying clear of CWD. There will be one check station just outside of Steinaker, one in Manila, and one at the Strawberry area by the Co-op Creek. DWR is especially hoping for samples out of the Book Cliffs and Diamond Mountain.
