DWR Needs Fishermen While Flaming Gorge Dam on Days of Rest

The Division of Wildlife Resources is imploring fishermen to head to Flaming Gorge Dam for an event 10 years in the making. The Western Area Power Administration and Bureau of Reclamation are planning on two days of rest
on Saturday, December 1st
and
Saturday, December 15th.
What this means for fishermen is that flows coming out of Flaming Gorge dam will remain stable and make for improved fishing success. DWR staff will be at the boat ramps both weekends to gather data from fishermen. Aquatics Manager Trina Hedrick explains: “If we ever want to have days of rest again, we have to have data to show that days of rest matter.” The water pressure increases from 1100 psi to 3000 psi. This increase pushes insects downstream feeding the fish. With days of rest, the insects do not get pushed downstream and it highly increases likelihood for the fish to bite on a fishermen’s line. With the stable flows, it is expected to be a great time to fish the Green River and the participation of fishermen will help the DWR as they gather data.
