DWR: Hummingbird Banding Event Coming to Daggett County

Spotting a hummingbird is a magical experience and one some people never experience. For those hoping for the chance to see hummingbirds up close, the Division of Wildlife Resources is hosting a rare hummingbird banding event at Red Canyon Lodge in Daggett County.  “It’s a rare and unique opportunity to see Utah’s tiniest birds in hand, and watch biologists gather baseline data to determine strategies for conserving these birds, their habitat and future research needs,” DWR Regional Wildlife Recreation Specialist Anthony Christianson said. “The population status of many hummingbird species is unknown. These banding efforts help educate our local community and also help us collect regional information that may be crucial for making future management decisions.” BLM Biologist Terry Tolbert will present the demonstration on Saturday, July 31st from 7am to 11am. Questions will be answered and participants are encouraged to bring a camera. The event is free but it is asked that you go to eventbrite.com to sign up in advance as space is limited.
