DWR Declare that 10 New State Fishing Records Were Set

The pandemic has changed a lot of plans, but one positive is that it seems to put more people outside enjoying what the wilderness and fresh air can give a person. It might be the reason that the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources have announced that ten new state fishing records have been set in 2020. DWR has been tracking records for harvested fish since the early 1900’s. The records fish program includes records for catch-and-release, spearfishing, archery, and setline to name a few. At this time there is 33 state catch-and-keep angling records, 37 state catch-and-release records, 21 state spearfishing records, 6 state set-line records and 3 state archery records in Utah. Three of the records were broken at Fish Lake. Two records, catch-and-release for Splake and Golden Trout, were each broken only to have someone a little bit later break those records. David MacKay had a productive May as he broke the Bear Lake cutthroat trout and the Splake record on two different bodies of water. Of course there was a local record broken when Chance Scott caught a 44 ⅛ inch Lake Trout that weighed 53 pounds and 15 ounces. At least one thing in 2020 went right.
