Local anglers have had more than just the satisfaction of the catch as a reward for catching a variety of trout species over the last decade thanks to a state program. The Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah Trout Unlimited launched the Utah Cutthroat Slam program in 2016 and it has grown to include different species medallions. The big announcement this week is that the slam has now reached over 2,000 completions by anglers. The Cutthroat Trout mural on 100 East and Highway 40 in Vernal was unveiled in coordination with promoting the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout medallion, which was originally released in 2022. “We’re grateful to the anglers who embraced the spirit of the Utah Cutthroat Slam as a true conservation effort, not just a fishing challenge, and shared the adventure with family and friends,” shares Brett Prettyman, Utah Cutthroat Slam Program Director. “Hitting the 2,000 completion mark — a milestone we couldn’t have reached without all of you — is unbelievable.” To learn more, visit UtahCutthroatSlam.org.
