Public feedback is welcome as Division of Wildlife Resources biologists make recommendations on the number of big game hunting permits in 2022. According to the DWR, biologists are recommending a decrease in general-season deer hunting permits for the fourth consecutive year among other big game proposals as well. “We’ve had several years of drought and are still facing ongoing extreme drought conditions in the state, which has a significant impact on the survival rates of deer,” said DWR Big Game Coordinator Covy Jones. “We currently have more demand for deer hunting in Utah than we have the supply for. We use the data and management plans to make proactive recommendations for the herd health of our wildlife.” The recommendation of general-season deer hunting permits is 73,075 which is a decrease of about a thousand permits from the year before. Online comments for northeastern Utah must be submitted by April 7th and the RAC meeting for Northeastern Utah will be held April 14th at 6:30pm at the DWR Vernal office.
