A Duchesne County project is one of just ten projects in Utah to be selected to receive a grant through the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART program. The Duchesne County Water Conservancy District, partnered with Bennett Water Association and Dry Gulch Irrigation Company, was awarded $246,600 dollars to make improvements at Bennett Pond. The improvements will expand the pond
from 4.2 to 6.2
acre-feet as well as line the pond and convert 1,700 feet of earthen ditch at the headgate of the pond into a pipeline. It is estimated the improvements will result in water savings of 957 acre-feet currently lost to seepage and other issues. Utah received a total of approximately $5.4 million dollars and was one of 13 states to receive part of $29.1 million dollars in grants awarded.
