Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Telephone Scam Amping Up

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public that a telephone scam is amping up again locally. The Sheriff’s Office received complaints that calls are being received with the caller making the threat of outstanding warrants. “The scammer then threatens if they do not contact [a] number immediately they will be arrested,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “These scammers are tricky and will continually switch numbers.” The Sheriff’s Office repeated what the public has been told before, that law enforcement does NOT call people with outstanding warrants and anyone who thinks they may have a warrant to take care of can visit the Department of Public Safety’s website. The message is simple. If you do receive one of these calls do not give out any information and hang up. Call your local law enforcement agency if you believe you’ve been the victim of a scam.
