Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Warns About Current Scam

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office reports that they are investigating two new fraud cases involving callers that are running a new scam. The callers identify themselves as being part of either a government agency, such as the IRS, or as representatives of a legitimate company/business. They will have you purchase prepaid financial cards to pay for some fraudulent charges. If you are contacted and asked to do this, hang up and then contact local law enforcement. Real companies and government agencies do not conduct business in this manner. As a general practice do not give out personal information over the phone. Often times the scammers already have some personal information before they call so that they come across as legitimate but they are not.
