Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Encourages Reporting Overdoses

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the public to report overdoses and is spelling out what the Overdose Good Samaritan Law means for those who report. If an individual believes that another person is experiencing an overdose, the reporting party can be immune from arrest, charge, or prosecution for certain controlled substance possession and paraphernalia offenses by calling 9-1-1 and dispatching emergency help in the event of an overdose, shares the Sheriff’s Office. If the reporting party provides the location of the actual overdose event, remains at the scene until responding law enforcement or emergency medical providers arrive, and fully cooperates with law enforcement and the medical providers, the reporting party can be given protection from certain controlled substance offenses. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, along with many other local law enforcement agencies, carry and are trained to administer the opioid overdose antidote and encourage Uintah Basin residents to seek out medical attention for opioid overdoses to save lives.
