The 2025 Legendary Veteran for this year’s Duchesne County Fair is Stan Bench. Stan was born on August 11, 1947, in Roosevelt. He graduated from Duchesne High School in 1965. In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years, including a year in South Vietnam. He spent eighteen months as an instructor at the Army Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia, before being honorably discharged in February 1970. After returning home to Duchesne, Stan married his sweetheart, Linda Stansfield, and together they raised five wonderful children. He served with the Utah Highway Patrol for 27 years, retiring in December 2005. Subsequently, he answered a recruitment ad to go to Iraq and train Iraqi police officers for eighteen months. Stan has been an active member of the Duchesne American Legion for 38 years. Stan is a hero to his children and is deeply loved and cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is humbled and honored to represent military veterans and service members in this capacity this year.
