The Duchesne County Commission went on the record this week in support of the re-licensing of the Uintah Hydroelectric project, an existing clean energy facility on the Uinta River north of Neola that was constructed in 1920. According to Duchesne County Community Development Administrator Mike Hyde, the County is not afraid the facility will be shut down but they still want to go on the record in support of its continued operation because the current license issued in 1989 is scheduled to expire on
January 31st, 2019

Moon Lake Electric will need the license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in order to “continue operating the facility, which generates about 1.2 megawatts of power each year.” Necessary steps are being taken to qualify for the new license. Hyde says the facility, which uses water to generate electricity, “enables Moon Lake Electric to supply its customers with a certain percentage of energy from a source other than coal.” Commissioners signed the letter of support addressed to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during their
