The Duchesne County Commission and the county’s fire and emergency management director announced Monday that spring burning has been closed until further notice due to dry fuel conditions and high winds. According to the press release from Duchesne County, the early fire season, including a 2,700-acre wildfire in the east Myton area, as well as several other wildfires in Duchesne County, have had local Fire Departments and First responders very busy. “This has created a concern for the safety of the public, first responders and property,” shares Duchesne County. “We have seen wildfire behavior become extreme in the early spring this year that has resulted in public evacuations and road closures already. With the predicted dry conditions and low fuel moisture, property owners are urged to clear and remove any dry weeds, grass, tree limbs and any other debris that may cause a wildfire to reach a home or any other structure. Such mitigation efforts help protect private property and public lands and help firefighters and first responders when wildfires threaten the wildland urban interface areas…Public and first responder safety is our #1 goal.” Thus, by order of the Duchesne County Commissioners, the Spring burn window is hereby closed until further notice. Conditions will be monitored and reviewed for possible consideration of re-opening the burn window as the spring green-up and weather conditions allow.
